NOLA Thanksgiving 2010 November 26, 2010

We will be heading to Ms. Lynette’s home in about an hour and the cool thing about today is that Ms. Lynette will be working with us today!!! I will be filming her today her the documentary as she has an amazing story to tell about what happened before, during, and after Katrina!
Like I have said on numerous occasions, almost all of the people that I have had the privilege to meet in the past 14 months are some of the most resilient, passionate, determined, understanding, and caring people that I have met in all of my travels both here (statewide) and around the world. I have learned so much from coming to this incredible area and I will be forever grateful for those life lessons!
Spend part of last night sharing dessert with Charmaine and friends and had a fabulous time. Although I was still full from a wonderful Southern style Thanksgiving, I could not pass up trying some triple chocolate bread pudding and chocolate pineapple upside down cake!! YUMMY!! Of course there were so many more choices but I could not force myself to partake in them all! LOL

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!! NOLA 2010 November 25, 2010

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone out there!! I hope that your that you spend with your family and friends is all that you hope/hoped for!! Always remember to cherish those times and live each day like it is the beginning of your day and with no regrets!!
Ms. Kim’s home has a pleasant intermingling of smells that have my stomach saying…”Y U M M Y!!” just a few more hours and it will be time to dive into some delicious Southern cooking!!
I got to spend some time on Skype with my amazing family in Colorado and I am sooooooo looking forward to seeing them next month!!!

NOLA Thanksgiving 2010 November 24, 2010

What a great time working on Lynette’s home again. Although I would rather be visiting her there instead of working on her home because that would mean that she was living there again… There is process and soon very soon she will be home!! The predicted weather changed our plans for painting the outside of her home BUT that means that she is one day closer because we did inside stuff today!
Tonight Ms. Kim and I are going to see Mannheim Steamroller in concert at the Mahalia Jackson Theater in New Orleans.

NOLA Thanksgiving 2010 November 23, 2010

It is awesome seeing Ms. Lynette again! I am looking forward to working with her over the next few days.
The presentation went well at Delgado even though there were not that many people there I got some valuable input, questions, and suggestions from those in attendance. I really appreciate all of Ms. Kim and the Omega Nu Chapters help. Ms. Kim, you are truly a blessing.
The bayou tour with Capt. Wendy was even more informative than the last time we were here. I enjoyed being able to experience the bayou during a different season. The tranquility and beauty take my breath away.
Time for some homework and some much needed RNR!!

NOLA Thanksgiving 2010

Last night was amazing! We went down to Snug Harbor on Frenchmen to see Charmaine Neville and Friends. My friends told Bryce Neville that I was my birthday and well, one the very last song Charmaine had me come up on stage. I got to participate in the last song by doing her classic final number…if you don’t know which one I am talking about well then you will have to catch a show and find out first hand. I got to play the tambourine with the band and the experience was, well let’s just say it was, Priceless!! Enjoyed every minute of it!! I love the atmosphere on Frenchmen so much better than that on Bourbon Street.
This morning we are headed to Ms. Lynette’s home to meet with her and Darryl so discuss what we will be doing at her home the rest of the week. Then, it is off to Delgado Community College City Campus for our presentation on the plight of New Orleans and Southern Louisiana and how we are working on helping the great folks in this area out by giving them a hand up and not a hand out.
From there, we are heading down into the bayou so that we can go back out into the bayou. The last time that we were there was in early summer and I want to have another chance to experience these amazing wetlands. Capt. Wendy provides environmental tours that provide so much information about not only the wetlands, bayous, and marshlands but also the damage that has been done because of the oil and gas industry!! This is an experience that everyone that comes this way should experience first hand. This is the link to Capt Wendy’s business…http://wetlandtours.com/. I will be getting some footage for the documentary during this trip.
From there we will head back to Ms. Kim’s to freshen up so that we can head off to Charmaine’s Jazz Club down on St. Charles and MLK for a night of great friends, food, and oh yeah you guessed it more music!!
I hope that your day will bring as much pleasure to you as ours will to us!!!
More later….

NOLA Thanksgiving 2010 November 20, 2010

The Omega Nu’s Induction was great! I am taking back some ideas to our chapter…shhhhhh!! lol I made it through my speech without crying although I did tear up but Britt Boyce saved the day.
Today we went on a tour of various parts of New Orleans that covered the socioeconomic standards that are represented here. I am still amazed at the amount of work that still needs to be done in these areas!!
I am looking forward to talking to some of the people that survived the 17th Street canal break. As we toured their area, there were signs in the yards that are demanding investigations into the Army Corp of Engineers and the fact that they admitted to having faulty designs in the level systems. I am sure that these folks will have some interesting stories to tell.
We went to the R & O for lunch and shared some awesome food with some incredible friends! The catfish Po Boy was fabulous!
Heading to Yo Mama’s for “the best burgers in town” tonight!! http://www.yomamasbarandgrill.com/ and then off to Pat O’Briens http://www.patobriens.com/patobriens/.
