We are heading to Pleasant Grove and Tuscaloosa, AL in a few minutes so that I can do a Photojournalism piece on the aftermath of last years deadly tornadoes. I am looking forward to meeting Jami, Mandy, and Jami’s dad…along with everyone that has agreed to let me interview them. Also, thanks to Garon for all of your help too!
After coming to N’Awlins four years ago, I saw firsthand the desperate need for help years after the media had packed up and our government failed to do what they said they would for the folks. The one thing that I want to try to prevent is the same type of thing happening in the areas hit by the tornadoes that tore through the United States last year. This can only be done if we continue to raise awareness and educate others to the reality of what is really happening AND reach out during a spare time and vacations to “Give a Hand Up and Not a Hand Out!”
One of the most rewarding things that I have discovered is community service and service learning! There is a lot to be said for reaching out to others that are in need as we may one day need that same help! I will be collecting information from various organizations to provide to any college/university and/or anyone that wants to reach out to help others!
